About foster care

Foster parents provide a temporary or long term home for children or youth who may need foster care for just a few days, a few weeks, several months or possibly years.

Most of these children live with foster families for several months, often with their brother or sister in the same foster home. A permanent plan may include adoption or long-term care in a foster home.

Foster parents work with staff as part of a team. The ideal is usually to reunite children with their families but when this is not possible, to provide adoption or long-term foster care.

Foster parents provide stability and a caring home that encourages a child's / youth growth and development.
