The intent of this web site is to encourage people in Eastern Ontario, Canada to join a team of one thousand (1000) foster parents in fostering the children and youth in care in our region. This web site also hopes to attract interest in adopting children in Eastern Ontario who need permanent, adoptive homes.
Recruiting foster families presents many challenges. For that reason, twelve (12) child welfare agencies in Eastern Ontario have a collaborative recruitment and retention program that will link agencies. Winning Kids is the result of that program.
Our web site is funded by the Children's Aid Foundation. This web site is a first for Ontario and a breakthrough in Eastern Ontario collaboration.
An average the twelve child welfare agencies are responsible for the care of approximately three thousand (3000) children and youth. An average of ten (10) children a day come into care in Eastern Ontario.
Many of these children will return to live with their families. However, some remain in care and some are placed in adoptive families. Whatever the plan, each young person while in care needs to live in an accepting, nurturing environment with adults who will actively promote opportunities for them to improve their health and reach their full potential.
"Winning Kids" are children and youth who share the same hopes, dreams and aspirations as their peers. Despite significant challenges they can move forward and have winning lives.
Our Mission:
"To develop skilled foster and adoptive families who provide parenting that meets the needs of children and youth."
