This page is dedicated to providing opportunities to people who are interested in giving some of their time to the Children and Youth in Eastern Ontario.

Special and Treatment Foster Parents Required

The Children’s Aid Society of the County of Prince Edward holds responsibility for over eighty children and adolescents. Many children and adolescents in our care have specialized needs, resulting from early life experiences or specific conditions. The Society invites applications from those in Prince Edward interested in offering Special and Treatment Foster Care to a select group of children and adolescents.

Special and Treatment Foster Care givers will offer an enhanced level of support and service to children and adolescents, and will be assisted in this work by a team of professionals from the Agency.

Training opportunities, a special daily rate, travel expenses and regular relief will be provided. It is preferable but not required that one caregiver remain at home to provide this enhanced level of care. The Special and Treatment daily rates offer an attractive incentive for those who wish to work at home. Travel in excess of normally expected transportation will be compensated at a competitive rate.

Special and Treatment Foster Parents may be asked to provide care for children and adolescents with a variety of emotional and behavioural needs.

Those interested in joining us in this challenging and rewarding work on behalf of children from our community are invited to send letters of interest to:

Mentor Program

What is a Mentor?

Mentors are adults who provide a home, life skills, advice and advocacy for young people as they prepare for independent living.

Why do young people need mentors?

Youth in Children’s Aid care need assistance with the transition from dependence to independence. Our youth need to learn the skills to successfully live on their own, or added support during their transition to independence.

With their own stable and successful life experiences, Mentors can guide youth through this challenging period in their development.

What do these youth need?

Life skills such as money management, banking, cooking, shopping, sexual responsibility, social and communication skills, personal hygiene, accessing community resources, etc.

Advocacy in the form of support and encouragement, friendship and advice.

Who can be a mentor?
A Mentor is an adult (21 years or over) who:

  • Assists youth in developing independent living skills.

  • Provides a realistic and positive role model

  • Provides support, friendship and assistance to teens while they are preparing to leave the care of the Children’s Aid Society.

  • Accepts youth for who they are and understands the issues they may be struggling through.

Resources and Supports for Mentors
All youth have an individual social worker who provides guidance and support to work on their own personal goals. The Children’s Aid provides youth with a monthly stipend which covers their rent and living expenses.

The program provides free rent plus a monthly stipend to the mentor in the amount of $300.00. The mentor is provided with ongoing support and training by a Child and Youth Counsellor.
